An 18-year-old Georgia man was fatally stabbed after allegedly kicking another man’s shopping cart in a Walmart parking lot, authorities said.

The Chatham County Police Department reported that 48-year-old Delano Middleton was arrested after the victim, identified as J.T. Schroeder, was stabbed during an altercation at the store on Oct. 23.

According to police, Middleton was leaving the Walmart when Schroeder allegedly kicked his shopping cart. Officers later found Schroeder with multiple stab wounds and lacerations. He was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries several days later.

Following his death, Middleton was charged with murder, court records show. It remains unclear whether he has entered a plea, and he currently has no attorney listed.

Schroeder’s father, also named J.T., told WJCL that the police account doesn’t capture the full story. “My son was never, ever confrontational unless he was confronted first,” he said.

The elder Schroeder recalled rushing to the scene after receiving a call about the incident. “I got over there as fast as I could and saw blood everywhere,” he told the outlet. “He was literally stabbed over ten times until he finally bled out and died.”
