Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have ended their nearly two-decade-long marriage, with sources telling PEOPLE that the Oscar-winning actress “feels very betrayed.”

“Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed,” another source added. “It’s devastating to her. She’s shocked.”

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, Kidman, 58, officially filed for divorce from the 57-year-old country singer in Nashville courts, following news of their separation the day before.

An insider shared with PEOPLE on Monday, Sept. 29, that Kidman “didn’t want this,” noting that the Babygirl star “has been fighting to save the marriage.” Kidman, who was previously married to Tom Cruise, shares two daughters with Urban: Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.

Earlier this summer, while Urban was on tour, Kidman and her children were described as “inseparable,” according to a source close to the family in August. “Nicole lives full time in Nashville. She loves the tight-knit community and group of friends that she has built, and it’s the perfect place to raise her children,” the source said.

The couple, who married in June 2006, were last seen together at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup match between Los Angeles Football Club and Esperance de Tunis at GEODIS Park on June 20 in Nashville. Prior to that, they walked the red carpet at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards in Frisco, Texas, on May 8.

Sources indicate that Urban and Kidman separated early in the summer. According to this week’s issue of PEOPLE, “Their lives were moving in different directions, and once he quietly set up his own place, it felt like the writing was on the wall.”

“It really hasn’t been a secret in their circles that Keith and Nicole have been living separately for a while now,” the source added. “People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable.”

In a post on June 25, Kidman shared a photo of herself embracing Urban on Instagram to mark their wedding anniversary, captioning it, “Happy Anniversary Baby @KeithUrban.”

Reflecting on their relationship, Kidman told PEOPLE in April 2024, “I’m so lucky that I have Keith, who’s just my love, my deep, deep love. That gives me the ability to go and do whatever I have to do because I know where I can come back to.” Urban, in 2021, described “marrying the right person” for “the right reasons” as his greatest accomplishment.
