Authorities in New Mexico say one person was critically injured after a truck plunged off an interstate bridge on Tuesday morning.

Albuquerque Fire and Rescue reported being dispatched around Nov. 4 to the intersection of Tramway Boulevard and Interstate 40 for a crash involving a truck that “went off the bridge” and landed on the boulevard below. The truck had been towing a travel trailer at the time of the accident, officials said.

Two people were involved in the crash. One sustained critical injuries and has not yet been identified. Due to the severity of the wreckage, firefighters had to extricate one individual while the other was able to escape without assistance. One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. “Albuquerque Police Department will remain on scene to conduct their investigation. No additional information is available at this time,” the agency said in a statement.

Footage shared by Albuquerque Fire and Rescue on Facebook showed the truck overturned and heavily damaged, with debris scattered across the road and one headlight still blinking.

According to NBC affiliate KOB, the New Mexico Department of Transportation said the crash prompted the closure of the right lane of westbound I-40 at Tramway, leading to traffic delays.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the cause of the incident or the condition of the injured person.
