President Donald Trump has repeatedly dismissed the renewed attention on the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case as a politically motivated “hoax” orchestrated by Democrats. But a new Justice Department filing signed by Attorney General Pam Bondi directly contradicts that narrative.
As reported by The Daily Beast, Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche submitted a late-night filing to a Manhattan judge advocating for the release of grand jury materials related to Epstein. In doing so, the filing emphasized the seriousness of Epstein’s crimes and the public interest in transparency.
“Attention given to the Epstein and Maxwell cases has recently intensified in the wake of the July 6, 2025 Memorandum announcing the conclusions of the Government’s review into the investigation,” the filing stated. “The instant motions for unsealing are consistent with the fundamental purposes set forth in that memorandum given the magnitude and abhorrence of Epstein’s crimes: to provide information to the public while remaining sensitive to protecting the rights of victims.”
This stance sharply contrasts with Trump’s repeated calls for media silence on the matter and his claims that the controversy is a smear campaign. Although Trump and several of his senior officials have at times expressed interest in the Epstein investigation, he has more recently alleged that the media’s focus on it is a political attack.
Many of Trump’s supporters have viewed the Epstein case — in which underage girls were trafficked and exploited at events hosted by the wealthy financier — as a potential key to revealing widespread corruption among elite political and entertainment circles.
Bondi had previously stated that a so-called Epstein “client list” was in her possession for review. However, earlier this month, she admitted that no such list actually exists, setting off a wave of backlash and forcing the administration into damage control mode.
