Police say they have found “inconsistencies” in the case of missing 7-month-old California boy, Emmanuel Haro.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD) shared an update on Saturday, Aug. 16, saying investigators noticed problems with parts of Emmanuel’s mother’s story about his reported kidnapping on Aug. 14.
“Investigators interviewed multiple individuals, including Emmanuel’s parents Jake and Rebecca Haro,” the SBCSD said in a statement. “During those interviews, Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview.”

Because of this, investigators said they “cannot rule out foul play” in Emmanuel’s disappearance.
Police reported that around 7:47 p.m. on Aug. 14, deputies responded to a call that Emmanuel had gone missing in Yucaipa, near the 34000 block of Yucaipa Boulevard.
Rebecca, who was found with a black eye, told police she had been attacked outside a store before her baby was taken.
“Investigators from our Specialized Investigations Division are continuing to investigate the reported kidnapping of a seven-month-old, after the child’s mother reported being attacked outside a retail store on Yucaipa Boulevard last night,” police wrote on X. “K9 scent-tracking dogs were deployed but the child was not located. No suspect information is available at this time.”
According to KTLA, Rebecca had been at a park for her son’s football practice with her husband and two other children. She then drove to a Big 5 Sporting Goods store to get a mouthguard for her son when the incident happened.
“I was going to get the diaper and somebody said, ‘Hola,’ and I don’t remember anything since,” she told the outlet.
Rebecca also told ABC 7 Eyewitness News: “I got him out of the car seat, and I laid him down so I can get his diaper ready … all I remember, I saw white … I fell on the floor, and as soon as I got up, I couldn’t find my son.”
She said she “checked all around my truck” and then ran into the store before calling 911.
No security cameras recorded the area where Emmanuel disappeared, police said. An Amber Alert was not issued since there was no suspect or vehicle description, according to KTLA.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division is still working on the case, and Emmanuel has not been found.
Police are asking anyone with information to call the Specialized Investigations Division at 909-890-4904.
