Two Massachusetts police officers are being praised for their role in what colleagues described as a “Christmas miracle.”
Stoughton Police Department Sgt. Albert Medeiros and Officer Daisy Guzman helped deliver a baby in the back seat of a car early Christmas morning. At 6:12 a.m. local time, officers responded to a call on Glen Echo Boulevard reporting a woman in active labor inside a vehicle, according to the department’s Facebook post.
When Medeiros arrived, a man urgently waved him down.
“I saw a male with his hands in the air, trying to flag me down,” Medeiros recalled. “I jumped out of my cruiser and went toward him, and he started saying his girlfriend was in labor.”
Hearing screams from inside the car, Medeiros ran to the vehicle and quickly realized the baby was already crowning.
“It was clear the baby was coming and they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time,” the department noted.
Officer Guzman arrived moments later and immediately began coaching the mother through labor, offering steady encouragement during the intense moments.

“I was just trying to do my best as I would want someone to do for me in that moment,” Guzman said, adding that the mother “gave it her all.”
Just five minutes later, at 6:17 a.m., a healthy baby boy was born. Medeiros cleared the newborn’s airway, placed him on his mother’s stomach, and gently rubbed his back until he cried.
“As soon as the baby started crying, that level of anxiety just dropped quite a bit,” Medeiros said. “At that point, we knew the baby was breathing, which was our main goal.”
Guzman kept the mother warm as she held her newborn son, who was named Orlando.
Shortly afterward, the Stoughton Fire Department arrived and transported both mother and baby to the hospital by ambulance. Authorities said both were doing well.
In a follow-up Facebook post, the department reflected on the moment, calling it a reminder that officers are often called upon to handle unexpected emergencies.
“We are proud of Sgt. Medeiros and Officer Guzman for their quick actions, teamwork, and compassion during this once-in-a-lifetime Christmas miracle,” the department wrote. “Congratulations to the new mother and her family, and welcome to the world, little one.”

Residents of Glen Echo Boulevard told WHDH they watched the dramatic birth unfold.
“They did a great job with the delivering,” said resident Allan Eliacin. “I know that’s not their specialty, but we’ve got to give them credit.”
Another neighbor, Kim Leonard, added that the moment captured the spirit of the holiday.
“It makes me feel excited,” she said. “Sometimes we forget the meaning of Christmas. This really brings it home — it’s about miracles, coming together, and helping one another. We need more of that.”
