The family of a pregnant Las Vegas woman is mourning her death after she was killed in a high-speed crash in which her 19-year-old boyfriend allegedly drove into a row of stopped cars at more than 100 mph.

The collision happened in the mid-afternoon on Nov. 18 and claimed the lives of 20-year-old Adilene Duran and 38-year-old Edward Garcia, who was driving another vehicle.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), the crash occurred when a silver 2011 Infiniti G37, allegedly driven by Duran’s boyfriend, 19-year-old Jose Gutierrez, struck a line of vehicles stopped at a red light at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard in the northwest valley.

Investigators said Gutierrez was “traveling at a high rate of speed [and] failed to slow for stopped traffic at a red light” before the Infiniti plowed into 11 other vehicles. The LVMPD detailed the case in a Nov. 20 statement announcing that the charges against Gutierrez had been upgraded in the days following the crash.

According to Clark County Jail records, Gutierrez now faces two counts of open murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of battery with the use of a deadly weapon. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 6, 2026, according to local outlet KTNV.

Citing an LVMPD incident report, KTNV and the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that witnesses told police Gutierrez appeared to be driving at more than 100 mph when the Infiniti slammed into the back of another vehicle, sending it spinning and erupting into flames as it crashed into additional cars. In total, 10 other vehicles were involved in addition to the first one struck.

The Infiniti G37 Gutierrez was driving was registered to Duran’s mother, KTNV reported.

A recent GoFundMe created to support Duran’s family with medical and funeral expenses described her as having been “involved in a terrible car accident” and said she “unfortunately lost her life in a terrible way.” The fundraiser also noted that Duran was pregnant at the time of the crash.

“Please pray for her to be in peace,” the GoFundMe page said. “Her family is devastated.”

Garcia, who was driving another vehicle, also died in the fiery multi-vehicle collision, according to KTNV, the Review-Journal, and local station KLAS. Two other people were critically injured.

Duran was “completely ejected” from the Infiniti as a result of the crash, according to the Review-Journal, which cited a police incident report. Gutierrez suffered “serious injuries,” police said, per the newspaper.

In its Nov. 20 statement, Las Vegas police said Gutierrez was initially arrested on “four counts of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm.” Investigators later upgraded the charges after reviewing additional evidence.

“The fact that the group of cars was stopped at the intersection, the light was red and clearly visible to other drivers, and the Infiniti still failed to decrease its speed as it approached is an indicator that Gutierrez was possibly impaired,” the LVMPD report stated, according to the Review-Journal.
