A pregnant Massachusetts teenager whose body was discovered nearly two weeks after she went missing had reportedly warned her family who to suspect if she ended up dead.
Kylee Monteiro, 18, disappeared from Rehoboth, Mass., on Aug. 7, according to a statement from the Rehoboth Police.
At the time, Monteiro was nearly three months pregnant, her family told WCVB and WBZ. Before she vanished, she confided in a friend that she didn’t feel safe.
“She was like, ‘I don’t feel safe right now, something’s not right,'” the friend recalled, per WCVB.
On Aug. 19, investigators found her remains inside the home of her boyfriend, Gregory Groom, and arrested him, the Bristol County District Attorney’s office announced, according to The Herald News, NBC Boston and WCVB.
Court documents revealed that the day before her disappearance, Monteiro texted her sister about a violent altercation with Groom. She also noted that her phone battery was dying — and left a chilling warning about who would be responsible if she didn’t survive.

“He threw me on the ground, pulled my hair, strangled me,” Monteiro wrote, according to Assistant District Attorney Jason Mohan, as reported by The Herald News, NBC Boston and WPRI.
“My phone is at 4%, and if I die, it was Greg,” she reportedly told her sister, authorities said in court on Wednesday.
Groom, 22, of Rehoboth, appeared in Taunton District Court on Aug. 20, where he was ordered held without bail on charges that he murdered his pregnant girlfriend.
Authorities said Groom later admitted to stabbing Monteiro several times before burying her body at his residence, per The Herald News, WPRI and 10 WJAR.
“The stab wound to her chest actually broke the blade off,” Mohan said during the hearing.
A GoFundMe has been created to help Monteiro’s family cover funeral expenses.
Groom now faces multiple charges, including murder, assault and battery on a pregnant victim, assault and battery on a family or household member, and aggravated witness intimidation, according to 10 WJAR, The Herald News and WCVB.
At his arraignment, Groom pleaded not guilty, per The Herald News, WCVB and 7 News.
