Former President Donald Trump is back in the spotlight — this time for his golf game.
Over the weekend, the 79-year-old president spent time at his golf club in Northern Virginia, teeing off with several high-profile Washington figures ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. The outing took place just hours before the Senate began debating Trump’s sweeping “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
“As the Senate wrestled with whether to begin debate on President Donald Trump’s megabill, a few key Republican allies spent part of the afternoon golfing with the president at his nearby club in Northern Virginia,” USA TODAY reported.
Joining Trump on the course were CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Senators Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Rand Paul (R-KY), and Lindsey Graham (R-SC).
Trump’s frequent visits to the golf course have long been a subject of media coverage, but this time the conversation has shifted to his official golf handicap. According to the Golf Handicap Information Network, Trump carries a 2.8 handicap — the lowest on record for any U.S. president.
His passion for the game is well known. Golf legend Jack Nicklaus once said that Trump “loves golf more than he loves money.”
Though he didn’t take up golf until his college years, Trump quickly immersed himself in the sport — and the culture that surrounds it.
“I played golf with my friends, and then I started to play with the hustlers,” Trump told Golf Digest. “And I learned a lot. I learned about golf, I learned about gambling. I learned about everything.”
Now approaching 80, Trump still plays regularly and remains a fixture at his golf properties. A 2.8 handicap is an impressive feat at any age — and even more so for someone nearing his ninth decade.
Whether on the course or in the Capitol, it seems Trump still knows how to draw headlines.
