Popular YouTube star and rapper DDG says he was the target of a swatting incident over the weekend.

The 27-year-old, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., went live on YouTube on August 11 and shared video from earlier that day. The footage showed him surrounded by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies in Castaic, where he was playing in a paintball tournament.

In the video, deputies are seen handcuffing DDG and escorting him to a vehicle. The handcuffs were later removed. DDG said the deputies did not tell him why he was being detained when he asked.

A staff member from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department told People they didn’t know about the incident and that any information would have to come from the Santa Clarita station. Calls and emails to that station were not answered.

DDG titled his YouTube live broadcast after the incident: “I ALMOST DED TODAY.”* He described deputies surrounding him with their cars and immediately telling him to raise his hands.

DDG also said he had just smoked, which made the situation even more stressful. “I literally just got done getting high. I’m fried. So, I’m thinking to myself this whole time like, ‘is this real?'” he said.

Deputies eventually released DDG, and he believes he was the victim of a swatting incident. Authorities have not confirmed why deputies came to the scene or who was responsible. DDG is not facing any charges and did not name anyone he suspects.

Earlier this year, in May 2025, DDG’s ex, Halle Bailey, who shares a child with him, was granted a restraining order, claiming he had been abusive. Bailey also received physical and legal custody of their son, Halo.
