Renee Nicole Good was found inside her vehicle with four apparent gunshot wounds, according to an incident report from the Minneapolis Fire Department.
On Wednesday, Jan. 7, Good, 37, had just dropped her 6-year-old child off at school before a deadly encounter involving federal immigration agents, according to earlier reporting.
Good was driving home in her Honda Pilot with her current partner, Becca Good, when they came upon a group of ICE agents, her ex-husband told the Associated Press. He requested anonymity and said Good and her partner moved to Minneapolis last year from Kansas City, Mo.
The Minneapolis Fire Department report states that at about 9:42 a.m. local time, responders found Good unresponsive inside her car, with blood visible on her face and torso. The report describes two apparent gunshot wounds to her right chest, one apparent gunshot wound to her left forearm, and a possible gunshot wound on the left side of her head, described as having “protruding tissue.” The report also notes blood coming from her left ear.

After the shooting, Good was moved first to a snowbank and then to the sidewalk, the report said, to create “a more workable scene,” improve ambulance access, and separate her from what was described as an escalating situation involving law enforcement and bystanders.
The report says Good was “unresponsive, not breathing, with inconsistent, irregular, thready pulse activity.” Despite emergency efforts at the scene, in an ambulance, and at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), the report states CPR was discontinued at the hospital at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Multiple 911 calls were also made following the incident. According to obtained call details, one caller alleged that agents shot Good because she would not open her car door. Another caller said they saw an officer fire two shots through the windshield into the driver, after which the vehicle tried to move and crashed into a parked car. The caller added that Good’s partner got out and ran to help, and that the caller saw blood on the driver while the partner attempted to provide aid.
Good was fatally shot behind the wheel by Jonathan Ross, who joined ICE in 2015 and was serving last year as a firearms instructor and a member of the F.B.I.’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. The shooting occurred after Good’s partner, Becca, suggested they take a detour after dropping Good’s son off at school.

As previously reported, federal agents had flooded Minneapolis as part of a sweeping ICE operation. Residents were already gathering and protesting the presence of thousands of armed agents in the city. Good agreed to go, but she never made it home.
“I heard three pops of the gun,” witness Lynette Reini-Grandell recalled. “The people around me started screaming … ‘You killed her!’”
This week, it was also revealed that Good’s family hired a law firm previously retained by the family of George Floyd.
Romanucci & Blandin, a Chicago-based law firm, said in a news release on Wednesday, Jan. 14, that it and an attorney in Minneapolis were representing Good’s partner, parents, and siblings. The attorneys said they were launching what they described as a civil investigation into the shooting that left Good dead.
The firm said Good and her partner saw federal agents in their neighborhood after dropping their 6-year-old child at school on the day of the shooting, and that they stopped to “observe, with the intention of supporting and helping their neighbors.”
Founding partner Antonio Romanucci said in a statement that people “want to know what could and should have been done to let Renee live and pick her child up safely from school that afternoon.”
Good shared her 6-year-old child with her late ex-husband, Timmy Macklin Jr., who died at age 36 in 2023, per U.K. newspaper The Guardian. She was also the mother of two older children — a daughter and a son from her first marriage — who are 12 and 15 years old, the AP previously reported.
