Pennsylvania Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon criticized Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem after Noem appeared on CNN’s State of the Union, where she faced pointed questions about an incident discussed amid a broader conversation about security and presidential actions.
During the interview, host Jake Tapper pressed Noem for specifics, asking: “The question is, what was she doing when she was moving her car?” Noem did not address the detail directly, instead shifting the focus: “The question is why are we arguing with the president who’s working to keep people safe?”
Scanlon later shared the clip and responded with a blunt message: “Because in America, we have the First Amendment. If you don’t want people angry about what they saw, don’t lie about it.”
Her remarks framed the moment as an issue of accountability and free speech, while accusing Noem of misleading the public by avoiding a direct answer to Tapper’s question.
