PROVIDENCE — A Rhode Island man has been arrested and federally charged after allegedly threatening to assassinate former President Donald Trump, Attorney General Pamela Bondi, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, acting U.S. Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced Wednesday.
According to court documents, 37-year-old Carl D. Montague posted the violent threats on June 27 via Truth Social, the social media platform owned by Trump Media and Technology Group. The post reportedly targeted the three political figures with explicit threats of gun violence.
FBI Special Agent Ciara Corbett detailed in an affidavit that Truth Social alerted the U.S. Secret Service to the threatening message, which stated in part:
“It’s a shame you won’t get to see the end of your fl’* term, because I’m gonna make sure I put a bullet rate (sic) between your fl’** head… Pam Bondi. Stephen fl’** Miller, all you b****** are gonna get a fl’** bullet to the head every single fl’** one of you.”*
Federal investigators linked the Truth Social account to an email address belonging to Montague. When agents visited his Providence apartment on June 30, Montague admitted to making the post, reportedly telling authorities he was “smoking a lot of marijuana” at the time and had since deleted his account.
According to the affidavit, Montague claimed he had no actual intention of harming anyone and insisted he did not possess or have access to any weapons. He said he was venting frustrations about politics and acted impulsively.
Despite the denial of intent, Montague has been charged via criminal complaint with multiple federal offenses, including:
- Threats against the President
- Interstate threats
- Threats to assault, kidnap, or murder a U.S. official, judge, or law enforcement officer
He was taken into custody without incident on Wednesday morning.
