Rob Reiner and Wife Michele Were Found Dead in Their Bedroom: Source

Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their bedroom, according to a source with knowledge of the homicide investigation.

“They were found where they were murdered,” the source added.

Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, is expected to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder, with a special circumstance allegation involving multiple murders, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced on Dec. 16. Prosecutors are also expected to allege Nick used a “dangerous and deadly” weapon, such as a knife.

If convicted, the charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

Nick is currently being held without bail at Los Angeles’ Men’s Central Jail. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday but did not, because he has not been medically cleared, his defense attorney, Alan Jackson, told reporters outside the courthouse.

Hochman said that once Nick is medically cleared, he is expected to be transported to court for arraignment, where he will enter a plea.

Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were discovered in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14, by their daughter, Romy, according to multiple sources close to the family.

Police said Nick was arrested without incident around 9:15 p.m. Sunday — about six hours after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the Brentwood home at roughly 3:30 p.m. to provide medical aid.

Authorities have not released the couple’s cause or time of death. Hochman told reporters Tuesday that investigators are still awaiting autopsy results.

Rob and Michele had been married since 1989. They met while he was directing When Harry Met Sally…, which was released that same year. They had three children together, including Nick, who has previously spoken publicly about struggles with addiction and homelessness beginning in his teens.

According to two sources who attended the event, Nick, Michele, and Rob were at a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien the night before the killings, where Nick and Rob allegedly got into a “big fight.”

“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” one of the sources said.
