Nick Reiner has been taken into custody and charged with murder following the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

Rob and Michele were killed in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. They were discovered by their daughter, Romy, according to sources familiar with the situation.

In a press release, the Los Angeles Police Department said Nick is being held without bail. At an unrelated press conference on Monday morning, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said Nick had been booked for murder.

Nick had previously been questioned by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division in the aftermath of his parents’ deaths.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said it was called to the home to provide medical aid at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Sources later identified the victims as Rob and Michele.

Rob and Michele had been married since 1989 and met while Rob was directing When Harry Met Sally…, which was released that same year.

Together, they had three children, including Nick, who has spoken publicly about struggles with addiction and homelessness beginning in his teens.

Rob was the director of a number of iconic films, including This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand By Me, The Princess Bride (1987), and A Few Good Men (1992), among others.

The son of legendary comedian Carl Reiner, Rob rose to prominence in Hollywood after breaking into the industry on the landmark sitcom All in the Family.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the Reiner family said in a statement to Variety. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
