Nick Reiner could face the death penalty if convicted in the murders of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said Nick will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, along with an allegation that he used a knife in connection with the deaths. The couple was found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14.

Hochman said the charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole — and could also result in the death penalty.

“No decision at this point has been made with respect to the death penalty,” Hochman said at a press conference, adding that his office will take the family’s wishes into consideration.

Nick has not yet appeared in court. The district attorney said he will be arraigned once he is deemed medically clear.

Rob and Michele were found by their daughter, Romy, according to sources familiar with the family.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said it responded to a call for aid at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The victims were later identified as the Reiners.

Nick was arrested after 9 p.m. Sunday — more than five hours after his parents were discovered. He is being held without bail at Los Angeles’ Men’s Central Jail.

Multiple sources previously said Rob and Nick had a “very loud argument” at a party hosted by Conan O’Brien on Saturday night.

“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” one source said.

Rob and Michele had been married since 1989 and shared three children: Jake, Romy and Nick. Rob was also the adopted father of Tracy, the daughter of his first wife, Penny Marshall.

Reiner directed several well-known films, including When Harry Met Sally…, This Is Spinal Tap and A Few Good Men, and starred on the sitcom All in the Family.
