Rob Reiner’s Son Nick Will Be Charged with 2 Counts of First-Degree Murder with Special Allegation of Using a Knife

Nick Reiner, the son of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, is expected to be formally charged in connection with the deaths of his parents.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said at a press conference that Nick will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder, along with a special allegation involving the use of a knife.

Rob and Michele were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. Sources familiar with the family previously said the couple was discovered by their daughter, Romy.

Nick was arrested several hours after the killings in connection with the case. He is being held without bail at Los Angeles’ Men’s Central Jail, according to his attorney, Alan Jackson. Jackson said his client was initially scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, but had not yet been medically cleared.

Sources also previously said Rob and Nick had been involved in a “very loud argument” at a party hosted by Conan O’Brien the night before the killings. One source described Nick as behaving erratically at the event, repeatedly asking guests whether they were famous.

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Fire Department said it was called to the Reiner home to provide aid at around 3:30 p.m.

Rob and Michele had been married since 1989 and had three children together: Jake, Romy and Nick. Rob also adopted Tracy, the daughter of his first wife, Penny Marshall.

Rob directed several widely known films, including When Harry Met Sally…, This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me and A Few Good Men. He and Michele met while he was directing When Harry Met Sally….

Nick had previously spoken publicly about struggles with addiction and co-wrote Being Charlie, a semi-autobiographical film inspired by his experiences and directed by his father.
