Nick Reiner will not appear in court on allegations that he murdered his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, until doctors determine he is medically fit to do so.

Rob and Michele were killed at their Los Angeles home on the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 14. The couple were discovered by their daughter, Romy, according to sources who spoke with family members.

Nick is suspected in the killings and is being held without bail at Men’s Central Jail. His attorney, Alan Jackson, told reporters at a Los Angeles courthouse that his client has not yet been cleared to attend court proceedings.

Before his arrest, Nick was questioned by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the home to provide medical aid at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Sources said the victims found at the scene were Rob and Michele.

The night before the deaths, Rob and Nick allegedly had a “very loud argument” at a Christmas party hosted by Conan O’Brien, according to earlier reporting. One source described Nick as unsettling guests, saying he was “acting crazy” and repeatedly asking people if they were famous.

Rob and Michele met while he was directing When Harry Met Sally. They married in 1989, the same year the film was released. They had three children together, including Nick.

Rob directed a number of films widely regarded as classics, including This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand By Me, The Princess Bride (1987), and A Few Good Men (1992). He first rose to prominence as a performer on the iconic sitcom All in the Family.

Rob was the son of comedian Carl Reiner, who died in 2020 at age 98.

In a statement to Variety, the Reiner family said: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
