More information has surfaced regarding the death of Mary Cosby’s son, Robert Cosby Jr.
Police dispatch audio obtained from Salt Lake City authorities reveals that officers were called to Mary Cosby’s Utah home shortly before 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23. According to the recording, a 23-year-old male, believed to be Robert Jr., was reported as unconscious and not breathing.
The audio indicates that he was administered one dose of Narcan, a nasal spray commonly used to reverse life-threatening opioid overdoses, as responders treated the situation as a medical emergency.
Three police units were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, what initially began as an overdose investigation later became a death investigation, according to a police spokesperson.
On Wednesday, Feb. 25, Mary Cosby, 53, and her husband Robert Cosby Sr. released a public statement addressing their son’s passing.
“Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace,” the statement read. “We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”
The couple also shared the message on social media, where they received support from followers and members of the Bravo community.

Following the announcement, it was learned that production for Season 7 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has been temporarily paused. Filming had been scheduled to begin that week in Utah.
Mary Cosby originally appeared on Seasons 1 and 2 of the series, later returning as a friend in Season 4. She eventually rejoined the show as a full-time cast member for Seasons 5 and 6.
Bravo released a separate statement expressing condolences.
The network stated it was “heartbroken” over the loss, adding that Mary is “a cherished member of our family,” and extending thoughts and sympathy to her and her loved ones.
Robert Cosby Jr. had previously spoken about his struggles with addiction during an emotional conversation with his mother on Season 5, which aired in November 2024. He shared that his substance use began at age 16 after trying Xanax at a party.
He disclosed that his addiction later involved other prescription drugs, including Adderall and OxyContin. During the episode, he described how increased use led to emotional distress and feelings of hopelessness.
In December 2024, Mary Cosby revealed that her son had completed a month-long rehabilitation program, stating that he had shown significant personal improvement afterward.
