A nearly decade-old interview featuring Romy Reiner and her brother, Nick Reiner, is circulating again—this time under far darker circumstances—after Nick was arrested and charged in connection with the deaths of their parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.
News of the arrest broke less than a day after the couple were found dead, prompting renewed attention to a 2015 conversation the siblings had while promoting Being Charlie, a film tied closely to Nick’s struggles with addiction and the family’s efforts to support his recovery.
In that Los Angeles Times interview, the two appeared close and candid, reflecting on a long and draining process that, at the time, they framed as part of Nick’s path forward. Sitting beside him, Romy spoke with clear affection about what she had witnessed.
“This is my best friend and I was there for all of it,” she said then. “It’s weird but good to see it on the screen.”
Today, those remarks land differently, echoing against the unfolding investigation.
Authorities say Rob, 78, and Singer, 68, were discovered in their Brentwood home on Sunday, December 14, after first responders arrived for a medical aid call. Officials have confirmed both suffered stab wounds, and the deaths are being investigated as a homicide.
In the hours that followed, multiple outlets reported that Nick had been arrested in connection with the case. Page Six confirmed he is being held on $4 million bail as of Monday, December 15.
The Reiner family released a statement shortly after news of the deaths emerged.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the statement read, according to Variety.
As the case develops, tributes continue to pour in for Rob Reiner, a filmmaker whose work shaped generations of moviegoers through films like The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, and When Harry Met Sally.
