Secretary of State Marco Rubio is brushing aside talk of a potential 2028 presidential run, instead throwing his full support behind Vice President JD Vance as the future standard-bearer of the Republican Party.
In an interview that aired Saturday on My View with Lara Trump on Fox News Channel, Rubio was quick to praise Vance and downplay speculation about his own political ambitions.
“I think JD Vance would be a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that,” Rubio said, calling the vice president one of his “closest friends in politics.”

Rubio emphasized his commitment to his current position in President Donald Trump’s Cabinet and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
“I want to do this job as long as the President allows me to,” he said.
Rubio, a former senator from Florida and one-time critic of President Trump, was appointed secretary of state shortly after Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. He was among the first confirmed to the new administration.
Looking Back on a Political Journey
Reflecting on his trajectory from Capitol Hill to the State Department, Rubio said he’s proud of what the administration has achieved so far.
“If I’m able to stay through the duration of this presidency and we keep making progress at the pace we’ve seen these last six months, I’ll be able to look back and say I made a difference,” Rubio told Lara Trump. “That I served my country in a very positive way.”
He added, “And I would be satisfied with that as the apex of my career.”
