Rudy Giuliani’s son, Andrew, thanked supporters for their prayers after a serious car accident left his father in the hospital over the holiday weekend.
Andrew, 39, posted on X on Sunday, Aug. 31, one day after Giuliani’s head of security, Michael Ragusa, shared a statement on Instagram confirming that the 81-year-old former New York City mayor was involved in an accident on a New Hampshire highway.
“Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world,” Andrew wrote. “As a son, I can tell you I’m honored to have a Dad that I can call the toughest SOB I’ve ever seen!”
Andrew is Giuliani’s eldest child and only son with his second wife, Donna Hanover. He currently works for the Trump administration as Executive Director of the White House Task Force for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
In Ragusa’s statement, he explained that before the crash, Giuliani had stopped to help a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident. Giuliani called 911 and stayed with her until officers arrived.
“Following this, while traveling on the highway, Mayor Giuliani’s vehicle was struck from behind at high speed,” Ragusa said.
He added that Giuliani was taken to a nearby trauma center, where doctors found he had a fractured thoracic vertebrae, several cuts and bruises, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg.

New Hampshire State Police confirmed on Facebook that they were already investigating the domestic violence case on Interstate 93 when the two-vehicle crash happened nearby.
“As a result of the collision, both vehicles went into the median and were heavily damaged,” the statement said. “Troopers and fire personnel, who were at the scene of the first incident, witnessed the collision and quickly crossed the interstate to render aid.”
This accident comes about a year after Giuliani was seen falling at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. At the time, his spokesperson Ted Goodman told PEOPLE that Giuliani “appreciates everyone’s concern” and that he had only tripped on the convention floor. Goodman pushed back on speculation, saying Giuliani had been doing multiple interviews just before the incident and quickly resumed his schedule.
Giuliani’s business partner, Maria Ryan — identified by the New York Post as also being a nurse — arrived at the New Hampshire hospital soon after the accident to help oversee his care.
“He’s getting further tests and stabilization of his injuries,” Ryan told the Post.
Ragusa said Giuliani is expected to stay in the hospital for two or three days before wearing a brace for his broken vertebrae.
“The mayor is in great spirits. He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” Ragusa said.
