Savannah Guthrie’s 84-Year-Old Mother Reported Missing in Arizona: ‘Not in Good Physical Health’

Authorities in Arizona are asking for the public’s help locating Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie, after she was reported missing over the weekend.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it began an urgent search on Sunday, Feb. 1, after Nancy was last seen around 9:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, Jan. 31, at her residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue. Investigators described her as a “vulnerable adult.”

Deputies said Nancy has brown hair and blue eyes, stands 5 feet 5 inches tall, and weighs about 150 pounds. Authorities said they did not know what she was wearing at the time she disappeared.

During a Sunday press conference, Chris Nanos said search-and-rescue operations were underway after family members called 911 around noon to report her missing. He said the call stood out based on what deputies were told at the home and what they observed on scene.

Nanos said Nancy is not in good physical health and may have been exposed to cold conditions overnight, but noted she has no cognitive issues, adding that physical ailments may limit her mobility.

Officials said they are using aircraft, drones, helicopters, and search-and-rescue dogs—some on loan from U.S. Border Patrol—as the search continues. Authorities have not ruled out foul play, and Nanos said homicide detectives are also involved despite no body having been found.

A spokesperson for Today said the family is working closely with local law enforcement and asked anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.

Nancy appeared on the Today show in November 2025 when Savannah returned to her hometown. In 2023, Savannah also spoke about her mother in a “Lessons Learned from Moms” segment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Savannah Guthrie has not commented publicly about the disappearance.
