The man arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of comedian Reginald “Reggie” Carroll has been identified as an employee of fellow comedian Katt Williams, according to multiple reports.
Carroll was shot on Wednesday, Aug. 20, in Southaven, Mississippi, the Southaven Police Department (SPD) announced in a statement last week.
At the time, authorities confirmed a suspect had been charged with murder but did not immediately release his name.
The individual has since been identified as Tranell Williams, according to FOX 13, WREG, and the Los Angeles Times. (Some outlets have spelled his first name as “Trenell.” SPD has not responded to requests for clarification.)

Sources familiar with the matter told WJTV, FOX 13, and WREG that Williams was reportedly employed by Katt Williams, working as part of his security team. PEOPLE has reached out to Katt’s representatives for comment.
FOX 13 also reported that the Southaven location where the shooting occurred is listed as Williams’ last known address.
Carroll had recently joined Katt Williams on his Heaven on Earth Comedy Tour, according to FOX 13, WREG, and WJTV.
In addition to his stand-up career, Carroll appeared on television, including a 2000 episode of the variety series Showtime at the Apollo.
The motive behind the shooting has not yet been disclosed.
It remains unclear whether Williams has entered a plea or secured legal representation.
