Sen. Elissa Slotkin’s home in Michigan was targeted with a bomb threat on Friday, Nov. 21, just days after she appeared in a viral video encouraging service members to refuse “illegal” orders.

In a statement posted on X Friday night, a spokesperson for the Michigan Democrat said Michigan State Police responded to the threat and searched the property. Slotkin was not home at the time, and officers determined there was no danger to anyone on site.

The statement also thanked Oakland County and Michigan State Police for their response and said U.S. Capitol Police will continue investigating the incident.

The threat follows backlash to a video Slotkin posted on Tuesday, Nov. 18, alongside five other Democratic lawmakers with military or national-security backgrounds. The group urged troops to “stand up for our laws” and to refuse unlawful orders, framing their message as a defense of the Constitution.

Slotkin and her colleagues have recently promoted legislation aimed at narrowing President Donald Trump’s authority to deploy National Guard forces domestically or to initiate certain military actions without congressional approval—context that critics say is not clearly spelled out in the short video.

Trump responded angrily on Truth Social on Thursday, Nov. 20, calling the video “seditious behavior,” labeling the lawmakers “traitors,” and saying they should be arrested. He later added that such actions were “punishable by death,” comments that Democrats and other observers condemned as inflammatory.
