Seth Meyers and his family are mourning the loss of their beloved dog, Frisbee.
The Saturday Night Live alum, 51, announced on Instagram Tuesday, Aug. 19, that the family’s Italian Greyhound had passed away.
“RIP to Frisbee, our OG IG who I was happy to go grey with,” Meyers wrote. “She was at her best curled in your lap and patient when we dressed her up like a pilgrim. Thanks for 14 amazing years, girl.”
Meyers shared a collection of photos of Frisbee over the years, from her puppy days to moments with his children, as well as lighthearted snapshots like Frisbee dressed as a pilgrim next to one of his kids dressed as a turkey.
The comedian and his wife, Alexi Ashe, share three children: Ashe Olson, 9, Axel Strahl, 7, and Adelaide Ruth, 3.
Earlier this month, Meyers had opened up about Frisbee’s declining health on the Aug. 5 episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast. “She’s just really old,” he told co-hosts Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and guests Will Forte and John Solomon. “She’s not actively dying, but I would say that even a 7-year-old who’s not a vet is like, ‘Last days?’”

Several of Meyers’ SNL colleagues offered condolences. Amy Poehler wrote, “Frisbee forever 🥏,” while Rachel Dratch added, “Noooo! Frisbeeee! sorry for your loss.❤️.” Kenan Thompson commented, “Oh nooooo!!! So sorry buddy!!! ❤️❤️.” Adam Pally shared, “Oh no Sethy boy – may his memory be a blessing,” and Ike Barinholtz added, “RIP to my former scene partner. Love you pal xoxo.”
Other celebrities have also shared their grief recently, including Dwight Howard and Snoop Dogg.
Fans also expressed their support, with some noting that Frisbee’s passing came just a day after Samberg’s 47th birthday. Samberg has long joked about disliking the dog, inspiring YouTube compilations of his comments over the years.
“I’m sorry, Meyers fam. ❤️ The collective love for her from the masses built a barrier Samberg’s vitriol could never pierce,” one fan wrote. Another added, “We love you, Frisbee. Sending love to the Meyers family and glares to Andy Samberg.”

In fact, Frisbee often became a running bit between the two friends. On Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast in July, Meyers asked Poehler to prank Samberg by announcing Frisbee had died. Samberg’s response: “Don’t even play, ‘cause I’ll be so happy… That dog sucks, dude. And I know this is a good vibes cast, so I don’t even want to bring that energy, but that dog is like a rat carcass.”
Meyers had previously shared a similar story during a Q&A on Late Night in April, explaining, “He’s hated my dog since she was little and now she’s 14 years old. Here’s a true thing he did: I sent our Christmas card — Frisbee’s in it every year — he scratched out her face like a serial killer and mailed it back.”

On Tuesday, after PEOPLE covered Frisbee’s death and Samberg’s history of teasing the pup, Meyers responded with a quip of his own: “She also disliked him, FWIW.”
