Two devoted Black Sabbath fans celebrated their love in the most fitting way — with an engagement at the very bridge honoring the legendary heavy metal band.
While visiting London from The Netherlands, Anton Greve and Sam Bok took a trip to Birmingham, England — the birthplace of heavy metal and the hometown of Black Sabbath, formed in 1968. Their visit included the Broad Street canal bridge, a landmark dedicated to the band.
Greve surprised Bok by proposing at the bridge, which features a bench engraved with images of the original band members: Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward.
The couple announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post, sharing photos from the moment.
“WE GOT ENGAGED ON THE BLACK SABBATH BRIDGE! I still can’t describe what happened to me yesterday,” Bok wrote. “What I thought would be a simple day trip to Birmingham, following in Ozzy’s footsteps, turned out to be the best day of my life. The love of my life proposed to me on the Black Sabbath Bridge, in front of Ozzy and the band, and got us the rings I’ve been dreaming of for years: Lemmy’s eye. I couldn’t have wished for anything better — it’s us forever <3.”

In the photos, Greve is seen kneeling with a ring box as the couple embraces and shows off their matching rings. The bridge was covered with flowers and tributes to Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away on July 22 at age 76.
Bok, 24, told the BBC that the proposal was “the happiest day of my life so far.” She added that their engagement post went viral and caught the attention of Ozzy’s wife Sharon Osbourne and daughter Kelly Osbourne, who both liked the post. “It was pretty awesome and felt like some kind of blessing from the Osbourne family,” she said.
Bok also told Birmingham Live that she and Greve, 23, spent the rest of the day visiting the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery’s Ozzy exhibition and the Crown pub, where Black Sabbath played their first-ever gig.
“I still can’t describe what happened,” she said. “What I thought would be a day trip to Birmingham, following in Ozzy’s footsteps, turned out to be the best day of our lives. The love of my life proposed to me on the Black Sabbath Bridge, in front of Ozzy and the band. I couldn’t have wished for anything better — it’s us forever.”
The couple, who have known each other for more than a decade and dated for two years, plan to marry around Halloween, either this year or next.

Reflecting on Ozzy’s passing, Bok shared that she and Greve were “devastated” by his death. “I know it’s weird because he didn’t know who I am — but he means so much to me,” she said.
The Black Sabbath bench was unveiled on the Birmingham bridge in June 2019 by Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler. “The bridge name and commemorative bench are both terrific, and we’re thrilled that everyone can now enjoy what has become a special location for Black Sabbath history,” Iommi said, according to a site dedicated to the landmark.
