A Florida man who lured his pregnant girlfriend to a secluded park and fatally shot her after discovering she was expecting has been found guilty.

Donovan Faison, 23, was convicted by a jury on charges of first-degree murder, killing an unborn child, and burglary — and could now face the death penalty. The verdict stems from the 2022 killing of 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo, who was found shot dead in her car at Coastline Park in Sanford on November 11, 2022.

Faison was arrested 10 months later following an investigation by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, which uncovered text messages between the two. In the messages, Faison reacted angrily when Fiengo told him she was pregnant. When she sent a photo of two positive pregnancy tests, he accused her of lying and replied, “Abortion!!!,” according to Matt Reed, the public information officer for the State Attorney’s Office in the 18th Judicial Circuit.

Prosecutors argued that Faison was “angry and felt pressured because he was living with another woman who suspected him of cheating.” They also presented a message Faison sent to a friend after Fiengo refused to terminate the pregnancy: “On my brother’s grave, I’m gonna crop her out,” prosecutors said.

Shortly afterward, prosecutors said, Faison persuaded Fiengo to meet him at Coastline Park, where he shot her in the head, leaving her and her unborn child to die inside her car. Investigators later found an ultrasound image near her body.

Authorities were able to place Faison at the scene after a friend told investigators that Fiengo had said she was going to the park to meet him. During closing arguments, prosecutors emphasized Faison’s incriminating text to his friend prior to the murder: “He said he was going to do it, then he did it. The police got the right guy,” prosecutor Domenick Leo stated.

The death penalty phase of Faison’s trial began Wednesday, Oct. 29, and is expected to last at least two days. His defense attorney did not respond to a request for comment.
