As the search for Nancy Guthrie enters its third week, authorities say residents should expect increased police activity in the area.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told Fox News on Saturday, Feb. 14, “Every day moving forward, there will be a lot of police activity throughout the community.”

“How much activity depends on what lead they chase and how it develops,” he said, explaining that tips are assessed at a command post before investigators are sent into the field. He added that those efforts can escalate over the course of a day and may ultimately result in search warrants tied to locating Nancy and identifying any suspect involved.

Nancy — the mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie — was last seen at her Tucson, Arizona, home on the night of Jan. 31. Her family reported her missing around noon on Feb. 1.

Authorities say ransom notes connected to Nancy’s disappearance were allegedly sent to multiple media outlets. The FBI has said the notes are under investigation and that officials are not aware of any communication between the alleged kidnapper or kidnappers and the Guthrie family.

The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery or an arrest in the case.

Savannah Guthrie, 54, and her family have spoken publicly multiple times, saying they hope to “bring her home.”

On Friday, Feb. 13, law enforcement gathered at a residence near Nancy’s home and the site connected to her disappearance. Officials said the activity was related to the search for the 84-year-old.

That same evening, authorities also examined a gray Range Rover at a nearby Culver’s parking lot and had it removed, according to reporting by The New York Times.

A sheriff’s department spokesperson said on Feb. 14 that one person was questioned after the late-night visit, but no arrests were made. Nanos later said a cooperative person of interest had been detained and then released.

In comments reported on Feb. 13, Nanos said investigators would continue pursuing the case, even if it takes significant time.

“Maybe it’s an hour from now,” he said. “Maybe it’s weeks or months or years from now. But we won’t quit. We’re going to find Nancy. We’re going to find this guy.”
