A shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, early Monday morning left multiple people injured and a suspect in custody, according to a report from the Associated Press citing local police.
The Reno Police Department (RPD) said officers responded to reports of an active shooter at the resort at approximately 7:25 a.m. on July 28, as reported by FoxReno.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect was apprehended and transported to a hospital. His condition and identity have not yet been disclosed. Police emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Officials reported several victims with injuries ranging in severity. The exact number of those hurt has not been released as authorities continue to ensure all individuals involved are accounted for. Some of the wounded reportedly transported themselves to medical facilities.
Several officers were involved in the incident and sustained minor injuries, though none were shot.
The shooting took place primarily outside the resort, near the valet area and along the north side of the parking lot. Authorities have closed the area for an extended investigation.
The Sparks Police Department is now leading the investigation, as it involved officer response.
Reno City Councilman Devon Reese shared a statement of sympathy on social media, offering prayers to those affected by the tragedy.
