Taylor Swift and Blake Lively are not talking right now.
Their close friendship has been in the spotlight after Swift’s name was brought up in Lively’s ongoing legal fight with her It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. That case began in December 2024.
A source recently told PEOPLE, “Taylor and Blake aren’t speaking.”
Swift, 35, has been mentioned several times in Lively’s legal battle with Baldoni, 41. In January, Baldoni’s legal team claimed that Swift pressured him to accept Lively’s rewrites on the movie. That complaint was later dismissed.
In May, Baldoni’s team dropped a subpoena for Swift. Her spokesperson said the subpoena was “designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.”
On August 13, Swift announced her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl. The record will include a track called “Ruin the Friendship.” Fans are already speculating that the song is about her strained relationship with Lively, 37.
Swift explained during her appearance on boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast that she recorded the album while touring Europe, before she became caught up in the It Ends With Us drama.
Back in April, a source told PEOPLE that Swift “was really hurt” when she was dragged into the legal case. Another source in May added that her friendship with Lively “has halted.” At that time, insiders said the pair were “taking some space,” but were “not no longer friends.”
Two months later, another source told PEOPLE that the two women were trying to be “on good terms,” though their bond “isn’t the same as it was before.”
Swift and Lively’s friendship goes back to 2014. Swift is even the godmother to Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ daughters. Their kids have appeared in Swift’s music: James had a voice cameo on “Gorgeous” from Reputation, and James, Inez, and Betty are all named in Folklore.
Swift’s 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, releases on October 3.
