Taylor Swift says her Eras Tour became her anchor during an especially painful period in her personal life.

In episode four of her The End of an Era docuseries on Disney+, “The Fate of Ophelia” singer, 36, reflects on the global trek — which ran from March 2023 to December 2024 — and admits that, at times, performing was the one steady thing she could rely on.

“There were points in this tour when the tour was really the only thing that was really keeping me going in my life,” the Grammy winner says.

Still, she emphasizes that the grind of touring itself never made her want to walk away. “But there were never points in the tour where I thought, ‘Oh, you know what? I want to quit the tour ‘cause the tour’s hard.’ No, my personal life was hard,” she explains, adding, “I went through two breakups on the first half of this tour, and that’s a lot of breakups actually.”

Swift appears to be referencing her split from British actor Joe Alwyn, 34 — whom she dated for more than six years before they separated in early 2023 — as well as The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, with whom she had a brief romance afterward.

For Swift, the nightly show became a lifeline. “The show was what gave me purpose and was what I could use to get me out of bed. So, the tour has never been the hard thing in my life,” she says. “The tour has been the thing that has allowed me to find purpose outside of the s— that was going wrong in my life.”

With a small smile, she adds, “Men will let you down, the Eras Tour never will.”

Calling songwriting “a form of therapy,” Swift also opens up about her 11th studio album. She describes the “Tortured Poets album” as a release valve for everything she’d been carrying: “Tortured Poets album is like this purge of… just, like, everything, everything bad that I felt for two years. It was a really rough time in my life, so the songs reflect that.” She continues, “Feeling like I’m not a person, I’m just this like, big conglomerate that no one sees as a real human being and especially not men that I date. And in the whole process just being like…nothing, nothing works. There’s no one for me in the world.”

While the tour brought difficult moments, Swift also points to the unexpected good that came from it — including how it ultimately connected her with fiancé Travis Kelce.

In the docuseries, Swift’s mother, Andrea Swift, 67, recalls seeing headlines tied to Kelce’s New Heights podcast, in which the football star, 36, said he’d wanted to give the Life of a Showgirl musician a friendship bracelet with his number on it. Andrea says she called a cousin — described as the family’s “resident expert on the Kansas City Chiefs” — who told her Kelce was “the nicest guy” and that he “really loves his mom.” That, Andrea says, immediately set her mind racing about how she might help the two meet.

Swift, who notes she’d been “very non-athlete” in her dating life up to that point, remembers her mom’s cautious approach: “So, you call me up with this tone of like, ‘Hey so I know you’re not going to react well to this. But there’s a guy…,” before Andrea jumps in with the key detail: “He’s really cute.”

Swift says her mom also nudged her toward a change, recalling, “You said something to the effect of like, ‘You gotta start doing something different.'”

She ends the episode with a joke about the unlikely beginning of what became her most important relationship: “If you ever would have ever told me that the most meaningful relationship I would ever have would start with a man saying he was ‘butt hurt’ that I didn’t want to meet him, unbelievable.”

The pair began dating and went public with their relationship in September 2023. They later announced their engagement in August, with the “Shake It Off” singer writing alongside several photos of the garden proposal: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.”

More recently, an insider said the couple continues to put real effort into their relationship, even amid packed schedules: “Taylor’s had an incredibly full, demanding year and she’s really proud of everything she’s accomplished. She’s worked extremely hard and her schedule has been nonstop, but even with everything going on, she and Travis still put a lot into their relationship.”
