A Wisconsin elementary school teacher who had an inappropriate relationship with a student cried in court after receiving a prison sentence on Friday, Dec. 19.

Madison Bergmann was sentenced to six years of confinement followed by six years of supervision after pleading guilty to one count of child enticement and two counts of sexual misconduct, according to KARE 11, WQOW and WEAU.

Bergmann, 26, had frequently texted an 11-year-old student, authorities said in court records previously described by police.

According to a criminal complaint, Bergmann sent messages describing physical contact with the child, including texts about “making out” and statements that she liked when he touched her, KARE 11 reported.

Investigators later found extensive communication and materials tied to the case, including thousands of text messages as well as 100 handwritten notes and pieces of artwork, WEAU reported.

“Dude I love you so much more — like I didn’t think it was possible — but oh my god today during reading….” Bergmann wrote in one message, according to WEAU.

KARE 11 reported that Bergmann agreed to plead guilty in exchange for a reduced sentencing recommendation. The outlet said she asked the judge for a one-year prison term, while prosecutors sought 12 years.

In video from the hearing aired by KARE 11, Bergmann apologized in court.

“I want to make it absolutely clear that I take full accountability for every boundary that was crossed,” she said through tears.

The victim’s father also addressed the court, calling the messages “disturbing stuff.”
