Rising motocross rider Enzo Badenas has died following a crash during a training session in Spain.

The 17-year-old Spanish athlete was fatally injured on Sunday, Dec. 7, during a private practice at the Red Sand Park circuit in Castellon, in eastern Spain, according to local outlets La Razón and Las Provincias.

Badenas, a standout in the sport, joined the Specialized Center for Motor Sports Technification (CETDM) in 2023 after winning the Spanish 85cc Motocross Championship the previous season.

The CETDM confirmed his death in a statement on Instagram, sharing that the teenager “suffered a serious accident” while training.

“The Ricardo Tormo Circuit Technification Center is shocked by this news and all the staff of the CETDM and the Circuit wish to give condolences, love and a lot of strength to all the family members, colleagues, friends and close ones of Enzo in these difficult moments,” the organization said.

Badenas was a member of the Spanish motocross national team and had already built an impressive résumé, competing in both national and international competitions, including the European Championship.

“Throughout this time, he has shown great personal and professional growth that has led him to achieve various podiums and victories,” CETDM added.

About an hour before the fatal crash, Badenas had shared footage on his Instagram Stories, riding his motorcycle and doing what he loved most, per Las Provincias.

His family later used his social media to share details of his funeral on Monday, Dec. 8.

“On behalf of Enzo’s entire family, we would like to inform you that the wake will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral mass at 6:00 PM at the Monduver Funeral Home in Gandía,” they wrote.

“We hope to see you all there. Enzo would have loved to see you. We are feeling all your love and support, and I’m sure Enzo feels it too.”
