A teenager has been arrested after allegedly rushing the U.S. Capitol with a loaded shotgun.
On Tuesday, Feb. 17, U.S. Capitol Police said in a press release that officers arrested an individual around 12 p.m. local time on the Lower West Terrace in Washington, D.C.
Authorities alleged the suspect — identified as Carter Camacho of Smyrna, Ga. — had multiple rounds of ammunition and a tactical-style vest.
Police said officers located the suspect’s SUV in front of the U.S. Botanic Garden on Maryland Avenue SW, and that a gas mask and helmet were visible inside the vehicle.

“Thanks to the quick actions of the officers, no one was hurt,” authorities said.
Capitol Police said the suspect was arrested on charges of unlawful activities, carrying a rifle without a license, unregistered firearm and unregistered ammunition.
Officials said Camacho was not previously known to the department, and that its Threat Assessment Section is investigating his motives.
In a press conference, U.S. Capitol Police Chief Michael Sullivan said officials are looking into whether members of Congress were the target. He noted that Congress was not in session and said the vehicle was not registered in the suspect’s name, adding that Camacho had multiple residences, according to PBS News.
