Nearly ten years before launching his campaign for Congress, Tejano musician Bobby Pulido filmed himself defacing then–President Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — a video that has resurfaced as the award-winning singer seeks a U.S. House seat in South Texas.

The clip, originally posted to Instagram, shows Pulido urinating on Trump’s plaque with the caption, “when you gotta go, you gotta go.”

Although Pulido has presented himself as a bipartisan candidate, this is not the only time he has engaged in provocative gestures aimed at Trump and Republicans.

Pulido is widely known for his Tejano, or Mexican–Spanish folk-style, hits such as “Desvelado” and “Se Murió de Amor.” He has received five Latin Grammy nominations and won Best Tejano Album in both 2025 and 2022.

In 2024, Pulido announced he would step back from his longtime music career to pursue elected office.

He has filed to run for Congress in Texas’ 15th District, challenging Rep. Monica De La Cruz, R-Texas. De La Cruz, a two-term incumbent, most recently won re-election in 2024 with 57.1% of the vote to Democratic nominee Michelle Vallejo’s 42.9%.

“You may know me as Bobby Pulido the singer,” he said in his campaign launch video. “I am José Roberto Pulido Jr., the son of (a) migrant farmworker and 100% South Texas Tejano. Let me tell you. I won’t stand by and watch the South Texas that raised me be torn down and divided.”

“I’m not team red or team blue. South Texas, I’m team you. I’ve spent decades using my voice to bring people together. Now I’ll use it to fight for the place we call home,” Pulido added.

According to reporting from Politico, Democrats had heavily recruited Pulido to enter the race.

His third-quarter campaign filings with the Federal Election Commission show that Pulido has raised $306,000 so far this cycle.

Since announcing his bid, Pulido appears to have removed some of his more combative posts about Trump from his social media accounts, including the Walk of Fame incident.

Univision, a Spanish-language outlet, originally reported on the video but has since taken the story down from its site; archived versions of the page remain accessible through web history snapshots.

Beyond the Walk of Fame episode, Pulido has shared other posts that put him at odds with Republicans.

He drew criticism, including from within his own party, earlier in 2025 when he wore a costume depicting Trump covered in blood.

Pulido has also used social media to mock Republican strongholds. In a 2016 post on X, he shared an image of Texas’ voting results, labeling parts of the state “Blue = smart” and “Red = neck.” Two years later, he posted a screenshot of a text message to his son, reminding him to support a Democratic Senate candidate.

“Don’t forget to go vote for Beto (O’Rourke) if you want to keep your inheritance,” Pulido wrote, adding a winking emoji.
