A Texas woman is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to kill her ex-husband by sending him a box of chocolates laced with fentanyl.

Pamela Jean Stanley, 63, was arrested last Thursday in a sting operation conducted by the Parker County Sheriff’s Special Crimes Unit. Authorities say Stanley was caught on tape discussing her plan to purchase powdered fentanyl and inject it into luxury chocolates meant for her former spouse.

According to investigators, the chocolates were intended to appear as a gift from a travel agency congratulating her ex-husband, Jeffrey Kauth, on his recent engagement—complete with a fake “honeymoon” promotion.

Stanley reportedly traveled from Coleman, Texas, to a motel where she attempted to buy what she thought was fentanyl from an undercover officer. Police say they found her in possession of 9.5 grams of methamphetamine at the time of her arrest.

She has been charged with:

  • Criminal solicitation with intent to commit murder
  • Criminal attempt to commit murder
  • Possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver

Kauth, who divorced Stanley in 2019, told NBC 5 that the plan could have harmed not just him, but his fiancée and their two young children.

“It was a pretty ingenious plan,” Kauth said. “I probably would have eaten the chocolates. My fiancée would have eaten the chocolates. Even worse, our kids might have too. She has no remorse.”

Following Stanley’s arrest, Kauth said he feels a sense of relief:

“I’m so happy they’ve got her behind bars.”

As of now, it’s unclear if Stanley has entered a plea to the charges.
