A woman turned to Reddit’s AITAH subreddit for advice after refusing to spend time with her husband’s friend as a couple — a decision rooted in a tense history with the friend’s wife.
In her post, she describes several incidents that shaped her boundaries. One particularly memorable moment happened when the bride shouted at her husband to “get out” after he entered their house to use the restroom — despite having the groom’s permission and being there as a guest. The rest of that visit was spent awkwardly in the garage.

The wedding, held less than two years ago, also brought its share of discomfort. On the way to the venue, the bride called her to request a last-minute favor: picking up a forgotten sign-in book. She agreed, but later found herself publicly scolded when the bride yelled, “Anyone NOT in the bridal party is NOT ALLOWED to be in this part of the venue until the wedding begins.”
“There were no signs, no instruction, the valet never notified us, security never notified us of this rule,” she wrote, explaining that she ended up sitting in her car for over an hour with another guest. Her husband offered to leave in solidarity, but she encouraged him to stay, attributing the outburst to wedding stress — though the night left her uneasy.
After the wedding, the relationship between the couples cooled further. The woman and her husband missed the pair’s gender reveal because her mother had passed away just days earlier, prompting the bride and groom to speak poorly of them for not attending. Since then, the woman says she’s kept her distance, seeing the bride only briefly at social gatherings.
The groom has tried to reconnect, repeatedly inviting them on boating trips. But the woman refuses. “I really don’t want to be stuck on a boat with her for hours,” she explained. She’s encouraged her husband to go alone, but he declines, bringing up the invitation every week only to have her turn it down.

While her husband seems disappointed, he understands her stance. Still, she admits feeling conflicted, acknowledging that her discomfort with the bride has made her “the factor” keeping the two friends apart.
One commenter suggested the husband and groom go on a “man’s trip” without the wives, but the woman said that idea wouldn’t fly — the bride insists on joining any outing.
For now, she’s holding firm, even as the guilt lingers.
