After high-level officials at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) were removed for refusing to follow the orders of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., conservative attorney George Conway criticized the Donald Trump administration, saying it is trying to push the U.S. back into the “dark ages.”

Speaking on MSNBC’s “The Weekend,” Conway mentioned Trump firing the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics because he disagreed with the department’s job numbers, which Trump claimed were false, though no evidence was presented.

Conway explained, “Everything has to be under [his] control, including reality and facts. Which is why we can’t have people talking about facts.”

He continued, “It’s why we can’t have independent people figuring out what unemployment is or what inflation is –– it’s why we can’t have all these nice things that allow us to behave like a 21st century society.”

“What’s happening here is we’re going back to the dark ages because they can’t cope with reality, they don’t want to cope with reality,” he added. “They want to create their own reality, and the problem is, as we saw with those people talking, yelling, booing [GOP lawmakers] at town halls, people aren’t buying it.”
