While President Trump has roughly a month left to either finalize the sale of TikTok or move forward with banning the platform, the White House has taken an unexpected step.
On Tuesday, the Trump administration launched an official TikTok account, sparking speculation that the popular video-sharing app may not be facing a ban after all.
This move comes after repeated discussions about TikTok’s future in the U.S., with President Trump citing concerns over the platform’s Chinese ownership. Earlier this year, ByteDance was given a deadline to sell TikTok, though that timeline was later extended.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to reaching Americans on every possible platform.
“The Trump administration is committed to communicating the historic successes President Trump has delivered to the American people with as many audiences and platforms as possible,” Leavitt said.
She added, “President Trump’s message dominated TikTok during his presidential campaign, and we’re excited to build upon those successes and communicate in a way no other administration has before.”
First post on the new account
The White House debuted its account with a 27-second video featuring a montage of President Trump meeting supporters, set to dramatic music.
“Every day I wake up determined to deliver a better life for the people all across this nation,” Trump says in the video, later adding, “I am your voice.”
The clip quickly gained traction, drawing over 7,500 likes and more than 500 comments within the first hour.
Social media reaction
The White House has not clarified whether launching the TikTok account means a sale deal is secured, but many users took it as a sign that a ban may no longer be imminent.
“White House rolled out a TikTok account. Something tells me the ban isn’t coming anytime soon,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Another added, “Back in my day, White House was going to ban TikTok. We live in interesting times! 🤔”
