A wandering dog brought rush hour traffic to a crawl inside Boston’s Ted Williams Tunnel when it was spotted weaving between cars on Thursday, Nov. 6.

According to ABC News and the New York Post, surveillance footage released by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation shows the black-and-white dog roaming in the middle of congested lanes, seemingly unbothered by the passing vehicles. Police quickly responded to protect the animal and manage the traffic backup.

The video shows the dog trotting along the center of the roadway, at times moving into the wrong direction on the left shoulder as drivers attempted to avoid it. A police vehicle soon arrived, with its lights signaling motorists to pull over. An officer stepped out, crouched down, and tried to coax the dog to safety.

Despite repeated attempts to guide the animal, the pup continued exploring — darting between stopped cars as drivers cracked open their doors and motioned for it to follow the officer.

Eventually, the dog climbed into the officer’s vehicle on its own. Reports stated that six police cars assisted in safely removing the dog and clearing the traffic obstruction.

Per NBC10 Boston, the dog was taken to Boston Animal Care and Control, where its owner coordinated a pickup. The outlet also noted the same dog had been spotted earlier that day near the economy parking lot at Boston Logan International Airport.
