Toddler Daughter Shocks Mom by Saying She’s ‘Not Pretty.’ Other Mothers React by Sharing Their Own Stories

A mom is getting a lot of parents nodding in recognition after sharing a bedtime moment with her toddler daughter — one that started sweet and ended with a surprising roast.

In a post on the toddlers subreddit, the original poster (OP) said she was rocking her daughter to sleep and singing when her child leaned into affection… and then delivered an unexpected critique.

“She kissed my face a bunch of times, touched my face with her little hand (sweet) and said ‘Momma, I think you are not pretty,’ ” she wrote. “I was slightly offended but also amused. I told her that’s not nice to tell somebody. Then, she petted my upper lip and said ‘You look like a man.’ “

The mom wrapped up her post with a mix of disbelief and laughter, writing, “What the hell???? I feel ridiculous for being offended, but I AM! 😭😂😅”

In the comments, other parents jumped in with their own stories about toddlers offering brutally unfiltered opinions.

One user remembered a moment with their goddaughter that caught them totally off guard: “I was giving my god daughter a bath once. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail and she said ‘You look so ugly like that.’ 🥴”

Another parent shared how their son narrates their body like it’s a science exhibit: “My son likes to slap my belly and say ‘wow it’s so soft and big.’ 😮‍💨” she wrote. “He also was playing doctor with me and lifted my shirt to look at my belly button, shook his head and said ‘uh oh. That’s not good.’ So. There’s that 😵‍💫🤣🤣”

Another mom called kids “brutal,” and admitted her sons have given her comments she still remembers.

“I have been so self conscious about my age spots (liver spots) that have started cropping up on my arms,” she wrote. “My son rubbing them looks me lovingly in the eye and says ‘mama your skin looks like salami, you have salami arms.’ Jeez. I wanted to punt him.”

“My other son told me 10 years ago while in the bath that I looked like the Turkey before it gets cooked,” she added. “Hahaha kids are brutal.”
