Former President Donald Trump unleashed a scathing attack on Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Wednesday, calling him a “DOPE,” a “TOTAL LOSER,” and a “bad politician.” He also took a personal shot at Raskin’s appearance, calling him “ugly.”
The tirade came shortly after Raskin appeared on MSNBC, where he discussed reports suggesting that Trump was unaware a key provision in his signature “big, beautiful bill” would eliminate Medicaid coverage for millions—until a Republican lawmaker informed him earlier that day.
“There’s a lot of talk on the House floor about how much Trump even knows about his own bill, and whether he’s just ‘out of it,’” Raskin said. “Even members who privately dislike the bill are falling in line behind him. That’s dangerous—not just for policy, but for democracy itself.”
Despite divisions within the GOP, most lawmakers have rallied behind the bill. But with a key vote stalling late Wednesday, Trump turned to Truth Social to vent, targeting Raskin directly.
Appearing later on MSNBC with Lawrence O’Donnell, Raskin dismissed the insults.
“I don’t mind being called a loser by Donald Trump,” he said. “After all, he’s the only U.S. president to lose the popular vote in two separate elections. And the last time, he lost by more than 7 million votes to Joe Biden—then incited an insurrection against the Constitution, his own vice president, and the U.S. Congress.”
As for Trump’s comment about his looks, Raskin replied with dry humor:
“I suppose I don’t love being called ugly by Donald Trump, but not everyone can match his legendary handsomeness and personal physical grace.”
