As New York City voters head to the polls on Tuesday to choose their next mayor, President Donald Trump issued harsh criticism of Democratic socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani, claiming that any Jewish voter supporting him is “stupid.”
“Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Tuesday.
Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani’s campaign for comment.
Earlier this year, Mamdani expressed discomfort over being labeled antisemitic, saying that “it pains” him “to be called an antisemite.” Mamdani, who is Muslim, describes himself as a “Democratic Socialist” on his X profile.
In a post last month on X, he stated, “As Mayor, I will do everything in my power to protect Jewish New Yorkers, as I will every faith community.”
Although Mamdani has declined to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada,” he has stated that it is not language he personally uses.
A report released this week by an antisemitism watchdog group, the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy (ISGAP), issued strong warnings about Mamdani’s record ahead of Election Day. The report accuses him of refusing to denounce the slogan “globalize the intifada,” noting that “intifada” is associated with terror attacks and violence against Jews. It also says Mamdani “downplayed” the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack while labeling Israel’s response as “genocide,” and criticizes him for introducing a bill aimed at penalizing New York charities that support Israel.
U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently defended Mamdani after being criticized by a GOP lawmaker for his Arabic-language campaigning.
Trump has urged voters to support former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the mayoral race. “A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani,” Trump said in a Monday Truth Social post, dismissing Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, who has struggled in the polls.
“Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!” Trump added.
