The House Oversight Committee, led by Republicans, recently released documents from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate, including a 2003 birthday book, drawing renewed attention to President Donald Trump’s past connections to the convicted sex offender.
The disclosure has fueled partisan debates. Democrats are calling for transparency regarding Trump’s ties to Epstein, while Republicans dismiss the scrutiny as politically motivated. Bipartisan voices have urged the full release of Epstein-related materials.
Among the documents is a drawing and an alleged check linked to Trump, which he and his team have strongly denied. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, “Did you see the signature on that check? It is not Donald Trump’s signature.”
Leavitt added, “I did not say the documents are a hoax. I said the entire narrative surrounding Jeffrey Epstein right now that is absorbing many of the liberal cable channels on television is a hoax that is being perpetuated by opportunistic Democrats like Ro Khanna and the others whom you saw in that press conference outside of Capitol Hill, who are trying to push this hoax against the president of the United States.”
Trump himself rejected any connection to the documents, declaring, “It’s not my signature. And it’s not the way I speak. And anybody that’s covered me for a long time knows that’s not my language. It’s nonsense. And frankly, you’re wasting your time.”
He continued, “Certainly I don’t like that whole situation, with respect to anybody being abused or hurt. But I haven’t — I haven’t even thought about that.”
Democrats are pressing for accountability. Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) said, “The Oversight Committee has secured the infamous ‘Birthday Book’ that contains a note from President Trump that he has said does not exist. It’s time for the President to tell us the truth about what he knew and release all the Epstein files. The American people are demanding answers.”
Republicans defended Trump’s stance. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) commented, “President Trump is not accused of any wrongdoing and Democrats are ignoring the new information the Committee received today.” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) added, “I don’t know, I mean, anybody can do a signature. We’ve seen the autopen’s been used quite a bit with the Biden administration. I’ve never known Trump to be much of an artist either, so I draw that into question.”
