Trump hits EU for lack of Gaza aid, says Israel needs to ‘make a decision’ with Hamas not releasing hostages

President Donald Trump criticized the European Union on Sunday for what he called a failure to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, while urging Israel to make a decisive move as Hamas continues to hold hostages.

Speaking from Scotland during a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Trump noted that the U.S. recently provided tens of millions in food aid to Gaza, while European nations, he claimed, have contributed nothing.

“We gave $60 million two weeks ago for food for Gaza, and nobody acknowledged it. Nobody talks about it,” Trump said. “You look at the European countries—none of them gave anything. We were the only ones, and no one even said, ‘thank you.’ It would’ve been nice.”

Pressure Mounts on Israel-Hamas Standoff

Trump also addressed the lingering hostage situation, saying Israel faces a difficult but necessary choice. Despite reports that many hostages are no longer alive, families are still pleading for the return of their loved ones’ remains.

“We have a lot of bodies, and the parents want those bodies as much as they would want their child if that child were alive,” Trump said.

He added that Hamas has been stalling negotiations because returning the last hostages would eliminate their remaining leverage.

“They had a routine discussion the other day and suddenly hardened their position,” Trump said. “They don’t want to give them back. And so Israel is going to have to make a decision.”

Israel Steps Up Aid Amid Global Criticism

Trump’s remarks come as Israel’s military says it has increased humanitarian operations in Gaza. The IDF reported conducting 28 airdrops of aid within hours on Sunday and claims to have transferred about 250 aid trucks into the region this week.

“Let me be clear: Israel supports aid for civilians, not for Hamas,” said an IDF spokesperson, emphasizing that humanitarian efforts will continue despite ongoing criticism.

Fox News’ Trey Yingst reported that hunger is worsening in Gaza, even as the IDF and United Nations struggle to coordinate aid delivery—fueling further tensions on the ground.

Trump’s meeting with von der Leyen at his Turnberry resort took place amid both the ongoing hostage standoff and mounting concerns about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
