President Donald Trump has installed two towering 88-foot American flagpoles on the North and South lawns of the White House—funded entirely out of his own pocket and unveiled just ahead of Independence Day.
“President Trump personally paid to install two big, beautiful American flags to wave proudly over the White House for years to come,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle told Fox News Digital on Thursday. “This is just one of many projects President Trump selflessly paid for to make the White House even more patriotic and beautiful.”
The cost of the flagpoles is estimated at $50,000 each.
A Longstanding Vision
While an American flag has long flown atop the White House roof, Trump announced in April his plan to add more prominent displays of the flag—one on each side of the White House. “They needed flagpoles for 200 years,” Trump said at the time. “It’s something I’ve often said—there wasn’t a true flagpole on the grounds. So we’re installing two beautiful poles, one on each mound.”
The flagpoles were installed in June, with Trump presiding over a ceremonial raising on June 18. He called the towering poles “the best anywhere in the country or in the world.”
A Patriotic Statement
The installation comes as part of Trump’s broader effort to emphasize patriotic symbolism during his second term. The flagpoles now stand as iconic bookends on the North and South lawns, just in time for the 4th of July celebrations.
“Paid for by Trump,” he proudly declared during his remarks at the flag-raising event.
Trump even shared a bit of construction detail during the ceremony: “Only if you’re in construction is this exciting,” he joked. “You have to get it perfectly straight. Once it’s perfect, they pour in the sand, and it’s there for 100 years.”
White House Renovations Underway
The flagpole installation is just one of several Trump-initiated renovations taking place at the White House. In March, the president announced plans to redesign the Rose Garden, noting that the soft grass made it difficult for guests—especially women in heels—to walk comfortably. The garden is currently being updated with stone pavers for easier access.
A Signature Symbol
President Trump’s embrace of the American flag has been a recurring image throughout his political career—from rallies to CPAC appearances. These new flagpoles serve as a visible symbol of that ongoing message.
As Trump put it, the White House now features not just one, but “two beautiful poles” to honor the American spirit.
