President Donald Trump issued a renewed call on Wednesday for House Republicans to swiftly pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, emphasizing the urgency of meeting his self-imposed July 4 deadline as the bill returns from the Senate with major revisions.
With the GOP holding only a narrow majority in the House, the bill remains at risk of stalling. Trump took to Truth Social to rally lawmakers behind his signature legislation:
“Our Country will make a fortune this year, more than any of our competitors, but only if the Big, Beautiful Bill is PASSED!” he wrote. “Republicans, don’t let the Radical Left Democrats push you around. We’ve got all the cards, and we are going to use them.”
Bill at the Center of Trump’s Agenda
The legislation is a cornerstone of Trump’s second-term domestic agenda, featuring massive tax cuts, expanded funding for border enforcement and deportations, and the launch of a new missile defense system dubbed the Golden Dome.
To help offset the cost, the bill imposes work requirements on recipients of Medicaid and food assistance programs. Still, the Congressional Budget Office projects it would add $3.3 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade.
House GOP Split Over Final Version
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, speaking to Fox News’ Sean Hannity, expressed optimism about final passage:
“We are at the 1-yard line,” he said. “We are going to run it right up the middle and score for the American people. This is the most conservative piece of legislation we have ever worked on.”
However, not all Republicans are on board.
Rep. Chip Roy (TX) voiced strong opposition, citing the Senate’s revisions:
“The Senate failed us,” he said, blaming them for returning a version “guaranteed to increase deficits.”
Rep. Ralph Norman (SC), a member of the House Freedom Caucus, went further, calling the bill a “nonstarter.”
“This bill doesn’t do what the president wants it to do,” he said. “I see enough ‘no’ votes to stop it.”
Trump Defends Bill as Catalyst for Growth
Trump argues the bill will unlock massive economic growth and usher in a “new Golden Age” for America’s economy.
“Nobody wants to talk about GROWTH, which will be the primary reason this bill becomes one of the most successful pieces of legislation ever passed,” Trump posted.
He pointed to a spike in investment and tariff revenues as early signs of the bill’s impact, though recent economic data has painted a mixed picture. The U.S. economy shrank by 0.5% in the first quarter of 2025, partly due to a surge in imports ahead of Trump’s planned tariffs. That followed a 2.4% growth rate the previous quarter, which itself had cooled from approximately 3% growth in late 2024.
What’s Next
With the clock ticking and GOP unity far from certain, the House is bracing for a high-stakes vote in the coming days. Trump, who has tied the bill’s passage to his broader vision for economic revival and border security, continues to apply pressure as Independence Day nears.
