U.S. Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials said Friday that a five-year-old seen being placed into a federal vehicle in Minneapolis is now back with his family.

Speaking at a press conference in the city, officials — including Border Patrol official Greg Bovino — said Liam Ramos is now at an ICE family detention center with his father, whom agents were attempting to arrest earlier this week.

“While other officers apprehended his father after conducting the arrest, my officers stayed with the child,” Marcos Charles, Executive Assistant Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), said. “They cared for him, took him to get something to eat from a drive thru restaurant, and spent hours ensuring he was taken care of. Again. My officers did that, not his father. My officers did everything they could to reunite him with his family.”
