President Donald Trump is offering a glimpse into his ongoing renovations at the White House, sharing updates that blend historical preservation with his personal design preferences.
During remarks about the upcoming White House Ballroom, Trump, 79, discussed several recent upgrades to the presidential residence — including a complete remodel of the Lincoln Bedroom’s bathroom.
“The bathroom was done by the Truman family a long time ago and done in green tile, and it’s done as — in a style that was not exactly Abe Lincoln,” Trump explained. “It’s a style that is not good … it is actually art deco, and art deco doesn’t go with 1850 and civil wars.”
He continued, “But what does do it is statuary marble. So I ripped it apart, and we built a bathroom that’s absolutely gorgeous and totally keeping in that time because the Lincoln Bedroom is so incredible for those of you who have seen it.”

Trump also revealed that the Lincoln Bedroom isn’t the only space getting an upgrade. Since moving back into the White House after his January 20 inauguration, he has also overseen major updates to the Palm Room.
“[The room] had one-by-one tiles that were put there probably 20 years ago by somebody and they were broken and bad — it’s embarrassing. And I took it out, and we did a magnificent bookmatched statuary marble floor,” he said.
“We fixed the room. We put up the proper lighting and chandeliers. People walk in, they can’t believe how beautiful it is, and so we had to fix it up,” he added.
The Palm Room now opens onto the redesigned Rose Garden, which Trump has rebranded as “The Rose Garden Club at the White House.” The Kennedy-era lawn has been paved over to resemble a polished concrete patio.
“We have worked very hard to bring it to fruition, and [it’s] not an easy situation, but it’s something that I think we’re all going to enjoy for many, many years to come. It’s a tremendous place,” Trump said during the garden’s September 5 reopening.
The ongoing White House transformations also include the construction of a 90,000-square-foot ballroom above the East Wing. According to reports, the extensive renovations are designed to bring a touch of the Trumps’ Florida aesthetic — reminiscent of their Palm Beach residence, Mar-a-Lago — to Washington, D.C.
A social insider previously shared that both Donald and Melania Trump “would prefer to be in Palm Beach,” so they’re “bringing Mar-a-Lago to Washington.”
“Their plans for the White House are being implemented to remind them of Mar-a-Lago,” the insider said. “That way, when they aren’t in Palm Beach, they are there in the mind.”
